About this event

The talk will concentrate on wave and tidal stream devices, comparing their performance with a number of renewable generation technologies.  The current construction and energy costs of wave and tidal energy will be discussed. The talk will emphasise the real challenges of marine renewables but also highlight the potential opportunities and set them realistically alongside the historic development of other innovative mass power generation technologies, such as coal-firing, nuclear, combined cycle gas turbine and hydro-power. Information in the talk will be extracted from Peter Tavner’s book (Wave and Tidal Generation Devices – Reliability and Availability) recently published by the IET.

  • 19:00 Doors open, tea and coffee and networking.
  • 19:30 Talk commences
  • 20:30 Questions and answers
  • 20:45 Event ends
